PoN! Dialogue is a pedagogical format ready to apply in your school for four weeks. The format aims to strengthen environmental awareness by connecting school classes in different cities, states, nations and even hemispheres for games, discussions, language skills, mutual understanding and action in favour of the cause of climate and biodiversity.
During a sequence of three online sessions, the PoN game will act as an engaging starting point for group reflections and individual work. Participating students will gain an insight into the perspectives, feelings and opinions of their same-age peers from the other location, especially in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals, biodiversity and coexistence.
Students will make drawings between and after the sessions, which will be shared here on the website, becoming an important communication tool that will cross language barriers. The experiences will support a deeper understanding of current global challenges.
Like this, PoN! Dialogue is aimed at primary schools and early secondary schools and represents a unique opportunity to connect young South Americans and Europeans, who can interact in the game and, through the teaching material, learn more about how to deal with sustainability objectives and the future of the world.
From the first tests with Brazilian and Portuguese school classes in 2022, the method PoN! Dialogue is developed in collaboration with The Animation Workshop, VIA University College (DK), the Municipal Education Department of Santos (BR) and public schools in the city of Viborg (DK), as part of the project Animated Engagementsupported by the Globus fund of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Activity Structure
- Participants: Two primary school classes located in different cities/states/nations. We recommend a maximum of 20 students.
- Format: An introductory session, three online play + discussion sessions and four homework assignments.
- Duration: 4 weeks
- Online sessions: Realised via platforms such as Zoom or Google Meet.
- Activities in all three sessions:
- Welcome: Each session begins with a general welcome, with brief presentations of papers or references;
- PoN! students play the PoN game in multiplayer mode in teams of four, made up of two students from each school. They must communicate and work together to progress in the game.
- Reflection exercises: after the game, the students do exercises on attitudes and dilemmas, based on questions in the material. These exercises encourage reflection on environmental issues and promote a deeper understanding of different cultural perspectives.
- Drawings and Communication: Between sessions, and after the last session, students are encouraged to draw pictures that express their opinions and feelings. These drawings are shared online, helping to overcome language barriers and serving as a visual communication tool.
Project Benefits
- Cultural exchange: promotes interaction between students from different countries, allowing them to learn about different cultures.
- International collaboration: encourages collaboration and teamwork between students from different nations.
- Environmental awareness: addresses issues related to the environment, helping students to develop greater awareness and ecological responsibility.
- Skills Development: improves communication, problem-solving and critical thinking skills through playful and reflective activities.
Final Objective
PoN! Dialogue aims to create a space for mutual learning and personal growth, where students can connect, collaborate and reflect on important issues in a meaningful and engaging way. The project is designed to be replicated in various schools in Brazil and Latin America, promoting a broad network of intercultural dialogue and environmental awareness.
